June 30, 2026: Strangers came to the rescue of a kitten stranded in a flooded storm drain after someone posted on social media that police and animal control were counting on the kitten crawling out on its own.
A dozen people in Jeffersontown, Ky., took note of the Reddit post and quickly headed out in the rain with pet supplies, lights, and rescue equipment.
Rescuers found the kitten about 35 feet down a narrow pipe – with water flowing through it – that was connected to a 5-foot-deep collection pit, according to WAVE.
The Good Samaritans used lights, food, and a grabber tool to carefully pull the kitten close enough to secure and place it in a carrier. The kitten was then dried, warmed, and taken to a home.
Two of the people who headed to the storm drain were Andrew Dharamsey and his wife, who foster cats through the Humane Society of Oldham County. They took the kitten home, according to WLKY.
The couple has fostered almost 200 kittens. They named their newest rescue Christal in honor of the Reddit user who first posted about the trapped kitten.
They added that Christal is recovering well and socializing with her new foster siblings.
