He Showed Up for His Family, Then a Community Showed Up for Him

A late-night DoorDash delivery in Texas turned into something much bigger—an outpouring of kindness for a man who never stopped showing up for his family.

Savannah Saulters of Mabank, Texas, didn’t expect anything unusual when she ordered food on March 14. But when she checked her doorbell camera, she noticed something that stayed with her. The man dropping off her order was older, wearing a Vietnam veteran’s cap, and gone in just a few seconds—but it was enough.

“There should be no reason that a 76-year-old man is delivering my pizza at 10:30 at nighttime,” Saulters said. “That should not be happening.”

She shared the video on social media, hoping to learn more. What she found was a story of quiet sacrifice.

The driver was Larry Phillip Colvin, a Vietnam veteran who had come out of retirement after more than a decade to help cover mounting medical expenses for his wife and son.

“My Social Security just wasn’t cutting it anymore,” Colvin said. “I had to do something, and I can’t hold down a regular job.”

At nearly 77 years old, Colvin had returned to work not out of choice, but out of love—delivering food six nights a week to make ends meet. The only night he takes off is Wednesday, when he goes to church.

What happened next is a reminder that even the smallest moments can spark something extraordinary.

A GoFundMe for his family helped him put the brakes on his job as a delivery driver.

What’s truly amazing is this happened elsewhere recently, when 78-year-old DoorDash driver Richard Pulley received nearly $1 million from a GoFundMe campaign that was started for him!
