July 30, 2026: Two Good Samaritans risked their lives when they braved flames to pull an unconscious driver from a vehicle that burst into flames after crashing into a gas pump today in Covington, Tenn.
Employees at the gas station quickly activated the pump’s emergency shutoff, but the car caught fire immediately, Covington police told Action News 5.
With disregard for their own safety, two bystanders approached the engulfed vehicle and pulled the driver to safety before first responders arrived.
Another bystander, who is a nurse, provided aid to the driver.
Police said witnesses perceived that the driver was having a medical episode shortly before the crash.
The driver is being treated in a local hospital.
“I want to thank the two Good Samaritan citizens who put their own safety in jeopardy to save the driver’s life by pulling her from the vehicle, which was fully engulfed in flames,” police Chief Donna Turner said. “The scene was quickly neutralized with the heroic actions of the Midway Market Staff, our citizens, and first responders working jointly to put the fire out and render the scene safe.
“God truly provided the angels this driver needed to be saved,” she added.
